Khat – Grow The Excitement Inducing Plant From The Arabian Peninsula

Khat, alias the Flower of Paradise is widely popular all across the Arabian Peninsula and in some parts of Africa. It is said that chewing Khat causes an uplifting euphoria which may well explain its popularity.

Some have in the past stated that it is difficult to grow Khat from seed but we tend to disagree. If you just know what to look for you can grow Khat at home without any hassles. You can plant the seeds in cactus soil mix, vermiculite, perlite or a mix of these as long as the potting mix is well-draining. This is important since Khat seedlings are rather sensitive to fungus which could hamper your growing success. The Khat plants love a warm and sunny place but don’t put them in direct sunlight.

Watering Khat isn’t too difficult either; just make sure you water only once the soil has dried out. You can expect your Khat seeds to sprout within a week. Once your Khat seedlings reached a height of 5-10cm you can repot them. A mix of compost and perlite is recommended for best results.
